Achei que devia compartilhar a beleza das tulipas no jardm na frente da nossa casa. Não me canso de olhar para elas!
You just wouldn’t believe how rainy (and cold!) this April was… and so was the beginning of May so to speak. I was already thinking I’d been transported back to England, though I hear the Spring’s been glorious there this year! But today is worthy of celebration. Not a single cloud in the sky, only the sun shining its gentle Spring warm rays on us. It is still a bit chilly but warm enough to stay in the sun comfortably without a sweater or jacket. Marta and Liliana have been playing outside for the last three hours and a picnic lunch was the right way to go today. More days like this please!
Você não acredita o quanto choveu aqui em abril, e começo de maio. Eu até pensei que tínhamos sido transportados de volta a Inglaterra, apesar de as notícias sere de uma primavera espetacular por aquelas bandas. Mas hoje é un dia digno de celebração. Nehuma nuvem no céu, apenas os raios de sol irradianto o calor gentil da primavera. Ainda está bem fresquinho mas hoje dá para ficar no sol confortavelmente sem casaco. Marta e Liliana estão brincando lá fora há mais de três horas e um piquenique ao ar livre foi o nosso almoço. Mais dias come esse por favor!
I was so inspired by the crafts session at the school this week that I couldn’t help but make some more felted eggs when I got home. I also fell in love with this origami bunny box I found via How About Orange and decided to put the two together. We’re having an Easter lunch with four other families and I thought that the bunny box and the felted egg would make a lovely gift for the children so I just threw a treat in the mix and voi-lá, it’s perfect!
The sewn eggs are now hanging on our nature table. They are so wonky they make me laugh. I thought I just had to share a few pictures with you!
A sessão de artesanato na escola essa semana foi tão inspiradora que não pude deixar de fazer mais ovinhos de feltro quando cheguei em casa. Eu também me apaixonei por essa caixa-coelho feita de origami que eu achei via How About Orange e decidi colocar os dois juntos. Nós vamos fazer um almoço de Páscoa com mais quatro famílias e eu achei que os coelhos seriam uma ótima lembrança para as crianças. Foi só adicionar um chocolatinho e voi-lá! Perfeito!
Os ovos de pano estão pendurados no galho da nossa mesa da natureza. Eles são tão tortinhos que me fazem rir. Eu tive que compartilhar alumas fotos com vocês!
Marta and Liliana are both very keen on helping with anything Warren and I might be involved with. Be it gardening, cleaning, cooking, washing the dishes, folding laundry, sewing, sanding… you name it. It is true too that it is not always easy to include them in every activity, specially when you want to get it done with quickly. But if the moment is right and there’s no rush, it is actually lovely to have their help and companionship during a task that can be quite boring otherwise. Also, their sense of importance and purposefulness is an immense reward. They literally beam with pride when they feel they have been helpful. So I’m trying to be mindful during my daily activities and slowing down so to offer them the opportunity to help. This is, in and of itself, an immense task for me! But it has been proving its worth. It is hard to take pictures when I’m also focused in the work at hand but I captured these two precious glimpses of the hardworking little ones.
Marta e Liliana adoram ajudar em qualquer coisa que eu e o Warren estivermos fazendo. Seja trabalhar no jardim, faxina na casa, cozinhar, lavar louça, lixando madeira, guardando roupa… literalmente qualquer coisa. É verdade também que é difícil incluí-las em todas as atividades, principalmente quando a gente quer se livrar do trabalho o mais rápido possível. Mas dado o momento certo, quando não há pressa até que é muito bom ter a ajuda e a companhia delas durante uma tarefa que na maioria das vezes é chata. E o sentimento delas de importância e propósito é uma das maiores recompensas. Imapagável. Elas brihnam de orgulho quando sentem que a ajuda delas fez alguma diferença. Eu tenho tentado estar consciente durante as minhas atividades do dia e desacelerado o ritmo para poder oferecer a elas a oportunidade de ajudar. Essa é a tarefa mais difícil para mim, mas tem valido a pena! É difícil fotografar quando eu também estou concentrada no trabalho, mas eu consegui capturar esses dois momentos preciosos.
Spring and Winter a doing a dance around here. One week the temperature goes as high as 12 C only to go back down again to -3 the next. King Winter is not letting go so easily but something has definitely shifted. After three months of snow covered ground it is actually a relief to see the earth through the melting ice and even see some green there. Are we all ready for Spring? Yes, yes, yes please!
A primavera e o inverno estão fazendo uma dança por aqui. Numa semana atemperatura sobe para 12 graus e na outra baixa de novo para -3. O Rei Inverno não está largando do seu domínio assim tão fácil mas alguma coisa mudou. Depois de três meses de chão coberto de neve estamos conseguindo ver a terra através do gelo derretendo, e até uma folhinhad verdes. Estamos prontos para primavera? Sim, sim, sim por favor!!!
Lots of veggies (cooked and raw), fruits, almost no starch a little protein and no sweets or alcohol. I already feel my body getting lighter and my mind clearer… nice.
Muitos vegetais (crus e cozidos), frutas, quase nada de carboidratos e só um pouquinho de proteína. Nada de doces ou alcoól. Já estou sentindo o corpo mais leve e a mente mais clara… muito bom.
A few posts back I promised a tutorial for this super simple apron. So here it is. But before I start just a little disclaimer: this is not a scientific pattern and I didn’t use measurement but I relied on my eyes mostly. The apron fits children ranging from ages three to six. For an older child you might have to adapt. Another thing, you can sew it by hand very easily, but because I made eight of them for the birthday party I resorted to the sewing machine.
Here’s what you will need:
Here’s how you do it:
1. Remove tags and labels from the tea towel, wash it so it shrinks all it needs to shrink and iron it after dry. The ikea tea towel shrunk around 20% so it is a good idea not to skip this step
2. Lay it flat with its right side facing you. This will be the front of the apron
3. Pick up the bottom edge and fold it up to about half of the lenght of the tea towel and sew the lateral edges together. Now sew other two seams in the middle so to make three pockets roughly the same size
4. Turn the tea towel over so that the back faces you and fold the top two corners towards the centre of the apron leaving approximately 20 cm (8″) in the middle.
5. Place the cotton ribbon inside the fold as shown in the picture below and pin it so it doesn’t move while you’re sewing.
6. Sew a triangle following the edges of the corners and along the ribbon but being careful not to sew the ribbon together (it might be lazy of me, but I prefer to do it this way than to thread the ribbon afterwads).
7. Make sure you tie a double (or triple) knot at the end of the ribbon/string so it doesn’t come out when pulled.
Voilá, you have an apron! Enjoy.

Há umas três semanas atrás eu prometi um passo-a-passo do avebntal que fiz para a festinha da Marta. Aqui vai. Mas antes de começar eu queria esclarecer que essas instruções não são científicas, eu não usei medidas e confiei no olho. O avental cabe em crianças de três a seis anos e para uma criança mais velha você tem que adaptar. Outra coisa, esse projeto é super fácil de costurar a mão, mas porque eu fiz oito aventais eu usei a máquina de costura.
Material:
Como fazer:
1. Remova as etiquetas do pano de prato, lave para que ele encolha o que tiver que encolher, e passe depois de seco. A toalha de prato da Ikea que eu usei encolheu 20%, então é uma boa idéia não pular essa etapa.
2. Coloque o pano de prato sobre a mesa, no sentido vertical, com o lado certo de frente para você. Essa será a frente do avental.
3. Pegue a borda de baixo e dobre-a até a metade do comprimento do pano de prato e costure as laterais. Agora faça mais duas costuras equidistantes no meio para criar os bolsos.
4. Vire o pano de prato de modo que o avesso esteja de frente para você e dobre as pontas superiores em direção ao centro do pano de prato deixando aproximadamente um palmo (20 cm) no meio.
5. Coloque a fita de algodão dentro da dobra como mostra a figura e prenda com alfinete para que não se mova quando você estiver costurando.
6 . Costure um triângulo seguindo a lateral dos cantos dobrados e ao longo da fita, mas tome cuidado para não costurar a fita junto! Pode ser preguiça minha, mas eu prefiro fazer assim do que passar a fita por dentro do buraco depois.
7. Dê dois ou três nós na ponta da fita para que ela não saia se puxada.
Pronto! Vc já tem o avental.

Wow, it has been more than a week since Marta’s birthday party. Time flew! So before it is too late to share here’s a peek at her Birthday celebration. It was a 100% homemade party and a very sweet atmosphere in our house. There were six children altogether ranging from 2.5 to 6 years old. We made Pizza, sung Happy Birthday to Marta, ate cake and heard beautiful stories together. Marta was glowing with joy… and so were her proud parents 
Caramba, a festa da Marta foi há mais de uma semana atrás. O tempo etsá voando! Então, antes que seja tarde aqui vão algumas fotinhos da celebração. Foi uma festa 100% caseira e com uma atmosfera muito gostosa. Foram seis crianças ao todo variando de 2.5 a 6 anon de idade. Fizemos pizza, cantamos parabéns para a Marta, comemos bolo e ouvimos lindas histórias juntos. Marta estava radiante de alegria… assim como seus pais orgulhosos!
We are here bracing ourselves expecting the snow storm that is in the forecast for this afternoon/evening. If it really manifests as predicted we should be getting strong winds and 30 cm of snow overnight! I’m already planning a few activities for the girls as it will most likely be a no school day.
Since we are on the Winter theme I thought I’d share two pieces of ice art we have been playing with. We finally made ice lanterns again this year and they sit outside right where we can see them from our dinner table. So pretty.
The icicle sculptures are the creation of Marta, Liliana and Helianne. Helianne is our surrogate grandma that comes on Fridays and look after Marta and Liliana for a couple of hours while I get to do what I need without children. Last week when I came back from shopping for Marta’s birthday party I found those great pieces on our picnic table. I love surprises! Next we’re planning icicle stars. Maybe this weekend.
Estamos aqui na maior expectativa da tempestade de neve que está prevista para hoje a tarde. Se vier como a previsão do tempo disse teremos ventos fortes e 30 centímetros de neve durante a noite. Já estou até planejando algumas atividades com as meninas porque certamente a escola estaré fechada.
Uma vez que estou no tema inverno, aproveito para mostrar duas atividade de inverno que temos feito esse dias. Nós finalmente fizemos nossa lanternas de gelo, as primeiras desse inverno. Elas estão lá fora estratégicamente posicionadas de modo que podemos vê-las da nossa mesa de jantar.
As esculturas de gelo foram criação da Marta, Liliana e Helianne. Helianne é a nossa vó postiça que fica com as meninas por alguma horas nas sextas feiras para que eu possa fazer o que precisso sem crianças. Semana passada, quando eu voltei das compras achei essas belas esculturas na nossa mesa de piquenique. Eu adoro surpesas! A próxima serão estrelas feitas de gelo, talvez nesse fim de semana.
