Still harvesting from our garden

Our garden is slowing down but we’re still getting tomatoes, beets, beet greens and chives. And flowers! The weather has been pretty amazing until this past week, sunny and warm… but now, I think our luck turned and the cold is sneaking in for real. So this may be one of the last harvests from our garden before the first frost.

This was our first time planting flowers and I’m just amazed at how rewarding it was.  It took a great time for them to grow and bloom, but once they started it’s been non-stop. We’ve being enjoying the flowers for about four months. Thank you Mother Nature! I’m already looking at seeds catalogs for next year.

On Saturday we also harvested some Autumn leaves and coated them with a thin layer of beeswax for the Nature table! Marta and Liliana were the ones who reminded me to do it, so we spend good part of the morning preparing them. Here for  some general instructions if you’d like to try it yourself.

  1. Very pretty! We harvested one beet this year. I still can’t believe it! After all those little seedlings. After each year of container gardening we learn a bit more but I hope next year we’ll have a bit more of a harvest!

  4. I only have a few flower plants in my yard but maybe I need to plant more. I never though it would be that rewarding, because, well, you can’t eat them, but now I see they really can be. Vases full of fresh cut flowers? yes please!
and thanks for the link about the besswax coated leaves. Going to check it out because those leaves are beautiful all bright and shiny.
It’s been ages since I stopped by. Hope you and your sweet family are well :)
