Summer is slow in blogland… but here’s what we’ve been up to these past few days. We’re off again to our friends cottage for the long weekend. See you next week!

O verão está bem devagar aqui na terra do blog… mas aqui vai algumas coisas nos ocuparam nesses últimos dias. Estamos indo para casa de laog dos nossos amigos de novo por alguns dias. Nos vemos semana que vem!

My flowers are popping open! Back in May I planted my first flower garden ever. Around the third week of May the  seedlings started breaking through the soil and since then I have been anxiously waiting for this big moment.  I planted Cosmos, Zinnias, Echinacea and Poppies. Sadly, absolutely nothing happened with the Echinacea or Poppies. Maybe the seeds weren’t good? Maybe the soil wasn’t right? It was a tad disappointing at first but the excitement of watching the other plants grow made up for it. Our veggie garden is also doing really well this year. We’ve been harvesting salad greens everyday plus cucumbers, tomatoes and even strawberries. Yum yum. All this food growing has also been  inspiring the little ones to make their own concoctions in their mud kitchen. Summer is fun.

As minhas flores estão desabrochando! No início de maio eu plantei o meu primeiro jardim de flores. Na terceira semana de maio os primeiros brotos começaram a sair do solo e aprtir de então eu venho esperando ansiosamente por esse grande momento. Eu plantei quatro tipo de flores, mas somente dois vingaram. Nada aconteceu com as equináceas e as papoulas. Talvez as sementes não estivessem boas? Talvez o tipo de solo não é favorável? Foi um pouco decepcionante no início, mas ver as zínias e o cosmos crescendo já vale a pena. Nossa horta também está indo muito bem esse ano. Temos colhido alface todos os dias e mais pepinos, tomates e até morangos. Nham nham. Todas essa plantação tem inspirado as pequenas a fazer seus próprios pratos especias na cozinha de lama. Verão é diversão!

First we chose our colours, then cut the tissue paper in small pieces, wrapped the bowls in clingfilm, and started gluing. We let them dry outside where it was warm and sunny and a few hours later… voi-lá: beautiful translucent bowls. This is a very simple and so satisfying project to do with little ones. Liliana went for a mixed colour approach where the fun was basically to paste the pieces of paper and paint them with the glue. Marta planned hers so that each area of the bowl had a different colour. Their bowls now reside on their bedside table holding a few treasures each. Primeiro escolhemos as cores, depois cortamos o papel de seda em pedaços pequenos, revestimos as tigelas em filme e começamos a colar.  Colocamos as tigelas para secar lá fora onde o sol estava brilhando forte e algumas horas depois… voi-lá: dois lindos potinhos translúcidos. Liliana partiu para um estilo multicor onde a diversão foi basicamente colocar os papéis e passar cola. A Marta planejou o dela de modo que cada área do pote teve uma cor diferente. Os dois potes agora residem na mesa de cabeceira do quarto das meninas, cada um guardando seus preciosos tesouros. A minha inspiração foi esse post no A Little Slice of Life. Our five days away consisted of lots of the following:

reading

playing with nature

watching the girls play

and painting

We also cooked beautiful food, had fancy wine, had deep and soul nourishing conversations with our very good friends and hosts. We’ll be back there in three weeks time. We’re lucky!

Nos nossos cinco dias fora nós nadamos muito, andamos de canoa, lemos, brincamos com a natureza, olhamos as crianças se ebaldarem e pintamos o sete. Também fizemos comidas maravilhosas, bebemos vinho chique e muito papo bom com nossos bons amigos. Em três semanas estaremos lá de novo. Mal posso esperar.
