hands follow heart

Hello again! I so not planned this blog break. My apologies to you that came back for new posts only to find the pretty tulips again and again… at least they are nice to look at! I slipped off my routine a while ago and didn’t quite managed to get back to it still, and it is true I have been busy. Busy making things with the children, for the children, for the hubby, for friends, for myself. Busy reading, knitting, sewing, cooking and watching the garden grow. In my absence from this space we also had a visit from the grandparents and lots of activities away from home. I missed both blogging and reading and commenting on my favourite blogs. I’m back and hopeful that I’ll find my blog writing/reading rhythm again.

Here are some pictures of one fun project I did with the girls just before my parents came. We used  paper plates, markers, paper crepe and wooden chopsticks to make masks. I had all the materials at home and the inspiration came to me in a flash one day the girls really needed an activity to focus their energy on and stop getting at each other. I was so grateful that the idea came to me so quickly and that it was very easily achievable too. We made two designs each, enjoyed each moment of the creative process, had our moods transformed and enjoyed a lovely afternoon thereafter!

Olá de novo! Esse recesso bloguístico não foi nada planejado. Perdão aqueles que retornaram a procura de posts novos apenas para se depararem com as fotos da lindas tulipas… pelo menos elas são bonitas de se ver! Há um tempinho atrás eu saí da minha rotina e ainda não consegui retomá-la totalmente. É verdade também que tenho andado ocupada. Ocupada fazendo coisas com as crianças, para as crianças, para o maridão, para amigos, e para mim. Ocupada fazendo tricô, costurando, cozinhando, lendo e vendo o as flores crescerem. Na minha ausência desse espaço também recebemos a visita dos avós e passeamos um bocado. Eu senti falta tanto de escrever no blog quanto de ler e comentat nos meus blogs favoritos. Agora eu estou de volta e com esperanças de achar o meu rítimo de novo.

Aqui vão alguma fotos de um projeto divertido que fiz com as meninas um pouco ante de os meus pais chegarem. Nós usamos pratos de papel, papel crepon, canetinha de feltro, e espetinho de churrasco para fazer máscaras. Eu tinha todos os materiais em casa e a inspiração me veio como um raio num dia que as meninas realmente precisavam de um atividade para concentrar suas energias e parar de implicar uma com a outra. Tão agrdecida eu fiquei da idéia ter vindo não só rapidamente mas também ter sido tão fácil de executar. Cada uma de nós fez duas máscaras, curtimos cada momento do processo criativo, transformamos os humores e curtimos uma ótimo resto de tarde!

Achei que devia compartilhar a beleza das tulipas no jardm na frente da nossa casa. Não me canso de olhar para elas!

We celebrated Mother’s day with a lovely walk in beautiful woods not so far from here. We didn’t see Goldilocks as Liliana was hoping, but we all had a great time. I don’t think I had ever been surrounded by so many silver birches and it was quite a sight. The trilliums were also in full bloom carpeting the ground. A feast for the eyes. At the weekend we also planted potatoes and delighted on homemade pizza in the outdoors oven! I so love Spring!

Nós celebramos o dia das mães com uma caminhada numa floresta não muito longe daqui. A gente não viu a Cachinhos de Ouro como a Liliana esperava, mas ainda assim nos divertimos. Eu nunca estive rodeada de silver birches (nao sei o nome da arvore em portugues!) e que beleza de vista! Os trilliums (flor tipica dessa região do Canadá) também estavam todas abertas fazendo um tapete no chão da floresta. Um banquete para os olhos. No fim de semana também plantamos batatas e nos fartamos com pizza caseira feita no forno de pizza. Amo a primavera!!!

Well, the sunny spell I was raving about yesterday was short lived and here we are again watching the rain fall outside. Looking from a positive angle, staying in gave us a good opportunity to experiment with this idea I found over at the beautiful flax & twine blog. You can pretty much work it out by just looking at the pictures below but if you’d like more details drop by flax & twine for a complete tutorial. Once you’re there I highly recommend you take the opportunity to browse for other lovely crafts ideas and beautiful photography. My girls loved to colour the salt, pour it in the containers and watch the layers build up. They each filled two jars and had I more they would carry on doing it. It was actually hard to get them to stop! I’ll keep an eye out for jars of different shapes to add to the fun, this is an activity that we will certainly revisit many times. On this rainy day we also got started in making a birthday present for Papa. Don’t tell him!

Aquele sol todo de ontem desapareceu hoje e cá estamos de novo olhando a chuva pela janela. O lado positivo de ter ficado presa em casa foi que podemos experimentar com essa idéia que eu achei no lindo blog flax & twine. Você pode ver como funciona pelas minhas fotos, mas dê um pulinho no flax & twine para instruções mais detalhadas e lindas fotos. As meninas adoraram. Cada uma encheu dois vidrinhos e teriam continuado se tivéssemos mais. Estou de olho em vidros de diferentes formatos pois essa é uma atividade que vamos rvisitar muitas outras vezes com certeza. Nesse dia chuvoso nós também começamos a preparar o presente de aniversário do Papa. Não conta para ele não!

You just wouldn’t believe how rainy (and cold!) this April was… and so was the beginning of May so to speak. I was already thinking I’d been transported back to England, though I hear the Spring’s been glorious there this year! But today is worthy of celebration. Not a single cloud in the sky, only the sun shining its gentle Spring warm rays on us. It is still a bit chilly but warm enough to stay in the sun comfortably without a sweater or jacket. Marta and Liliana have been playing outside for the last three hours and a picnic lunch was the right way to go today. More days like this please!

Você não acredita o quanto choveu aqui em abril, e começo de maio. Eu até pensei que tínhamos sido transportados de volta a Inglaterra, apesar de as notícias sere de uma primavera espetacular por aquelas bandas. Mas hoje é un dia digno de celebração. Nehuma nuvem no céu, apenas os raios de sol irradianto o calor gentil da primavera. Ainda está bem fresquinho mas hoje dá para ficar no sol confortavelmente sem casaco. Marta e Liliana estão brincando lá fora há mais de três horas e um piquenique ao ar livre foi o nosso almoço. Mais dias come esse por favor!

More than a week has passed without a post from me, or much internet activity at all. Thank you so much for your lovely comments regarding the origami bunny and felted eggs. I think I put so much energy in preparing for Easter that I kind of relaxed after it was over. We had a lovely time celebrating it with friends and the children really cherished the gifts I prepared. Our girls enjoyed Easter morning the best, when they woke up to see that the bunny not only left treats for them but also left tracks around the house. Oh, the excitement! I have been doing a lot of sewing this past week and am currently working on a top for me. Hopefully it will look good enough to share a picture. I also finished Spring trousers for Marta and Liliana. I wanted both to be short, mid-calf height, but Liliana’s turned out long… I must have been really distracted. I only hope they weather will warm up so they can enjoy it! I got my inspiration from this Soulemama’s post, a long time ago.

Primeiro, muito obrigada pelos comentários sobre o coelhinho de origami e ovinhos de feltro. Mais de uma semana sepassou e nem uma entrada nesse meu blog! Ou qualquer outra atividade na internet. Eu coloquei tanta energia nos preparativos da Páscoa que eu meio que relaxei quando tudo acabou. A nossa celebração com amigos foi muito linda e as crianças amaram a lembrança que fiz. As nossas meninas gostaram mesmo foi da manhã de domingo quandoacordaram e viram que o coelhinho além de deixar ovinhos também deixou pegadas pela casa.  Eu costurei um bocadonessa semana que passou e estou fazendo uma blusa para mim. Espero que fique bom o suficiente para eu podermostrar uma foto. Eu também acabei duas calças, uma para a Marta e uma para a Lili. Eu queria que as duas fossemcurtas, com a altura no meio da canela, mas a da Lili acabou longa mesmo… foi uma distração minha, oops! Eu sóespero que a temperatura suba loga para elas poderem aproveitar as calças. A minha inspiração foi esse post da Soulemama há muito tempo atrás.
