hands follow heart

We just got to Philadelphia today to spend the week with Warren’s family. I’m ever so thrilled that my dear cousin who lives in NYC will come over and spend a couple of days there with us too.  I wanted to make her something special but didn’t really have that much time so I thought some fingerless mittens would be a good project. Not only they are quick to knit but I always remember Ana Luisa having cold hands so it will actually be a very suitable gift. I think (and hope) that as a Pilates teacher she’ll even be able to wear them while working! My first choice of pattern was Fetchingbut as I have never done cables before I thought I’d better go for something I know I can handle without hiccups. I ended up going with Fingerless Mitts by Amanda Gil. This is a very simple pattern and I’m very pleased with the result. Just a note: this is actually my hand on the picture and the mittens look very stretched because my cousin’s hands are way smaller than mine.

Acabamos de chegar na Filadelfia para passarmos uma semana com a familia do Warren. Eu estou super feliz porque a minha prima querida que mora em Nova Yorque tambem vam passar uns dois dias aqui coma gente. Eu quis fazer uma coisa especial para dar a ela de presente, mas como nao tinha muito tempo achei que umas luvainhas sem dedo seriam o projeto ideal. Nao so sao rapidas de tricotar como tambem sempre me lembro da Luisa reclamar de estar com as maos frias o que as fazem o presente perfeito! A minha primeira escolha de modelo foi a Fetching, mas como eu nunca fiz cabos antes preferi um modelo simples que eu pudesse terminar sem percalcos. Eu acabei escolhendo o modelo Fingerless Mittens de Amanda Gill. E suoer simples e fiquei muito satisfeita com o resultado. So um detalhe: na foto as luvas aparecem bem esticadas porque elas foram feitas um tamanho menor para caber na Luisa.

Para os que leem em portugues me perdoem a falta de acentuacao pois o computador dos quais lhe escrevo nao tem configuracao para o portugues.

Last Saturday we did an exploratory trip to a little town called Kleinburg. It’s about 30 minutes from where we live and we had heard good things about it. The weather was gorgeous and our two little girls were in the best of their moods so we couldn’t miss the opportunity to go out. Kleinburg is actually a little gem of a town, so very cute and full of character. It was very refreshing to see this little oasis right in the middle of endless Toronto suburbia. We’ll definitely come back. 

Sábado passado nós fizemos uma viagem exploratória a uma cidadezinha chamada Kleinburg. Fica a mais ou menos meia hora de onde a gente mora e já tínhamos ouvido muitas coisas boas a respeito.  O tempo estava ótimo e os ânimos das nossas duas filhotas  estavam em perfeitas condições e não podíamos perder a oportunidade de passear. Kleinbur é, na verdade, uma jóia de cidadezinha. Tem beleza e caráter. Foi um alívio encontrar esse pequeno oásis no meio dos subúrbios de Toronto. Nós com certeza vamos voltar mais vezes.

I loved this idea of organising books by colour straight away when I first heard of it from a friend over 10 years ago. Never had a chance to do anything with it then and actually forgot about it until recently when I stumbled on this picture. Our new house feels a bit empty (as it is much bigger than our one in England) and the bookcase in the living room needed something to hold the space better. So, we had a perfect occasion to experiment with an old idea. We are really surprised and pleased with the effect it had in the space and it  actually felt great to bring a little bit of unusual art into our living room. We think we can live with it for a while!

Eu amei essa idéia de arrumar os livros na estante pelas suas cores desde a primeria vez que ouvi de uma amiga minha há mais de 10 anos atrás. Na época eu não tive a chance de experimentar e acabei esquecendo do assunto até que recentemente me deparei com essa foto. A nossa casa parece super vazia (pois é, na verdade, muito maior do que a nossa casa na Inglaterra) e a estante da sala precisava de alguma coisa para ajudar a compor o espaço. Eis que chegou a hora de experimentar com a arrumação dos livros! O resultado fez uma diferença incrível e ficamos super felizes de trazer uma arte inusitada para a nossa sala.
